Adam Milstein is a successful real estate investor whose company Hager Pacific Properties owns and leases out luxurious residential properties throughout California, Illinois and Texas. Milstein founded the company about 30 years ago and has also been the founder of several Jewish philanthropy organizations including the Milstein Foundation. His work in both business and philanthropy earned him a place in the Jerusalem Post’s Top 50 Most Influential Jews list of 2016, an honor that’s been given also to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. Milstein was interviewed by Ideamensch to find out more about his business decisions and keys to success.
Milstein said he began in the real estate investment industry after completing graduate school and felt he could do better on his own than what any current companies were offering him. He also said that he never knows what he might expect from day to day in the business, but that acquiring more assets and engaging in philanthropy adds structure. He believes in patience towards making money and not simply sticking to any particular goals to do so. Adam Milstein was born in Israel in 1952 to two Jewish parents who migrated there upon the nation being formed in 1948. He learned the building framing trade growing up from his father and would later work alongside him after completing his military service. As a soldier in the Israeli army he fought in the Yom Kippur War of 1973. He married Gila Elgrably upon returning home and also enrolled in the Technion, Israeli Institute of Technology. Three years after completing his degree at the Technion he relocated his family to the US and completed grad school at USC.
Part of the Milstein Foundation’s core philosophy is active philanthropy through which Adam and Gila Milstein are personally involved in every organization they support. They also call for unity through path life impact and philanthropic synergy. Several key pro-Israel organizations that the Milsteins have formed include StandWithUs, Israeli-American Council, Hasbara Fellowshios, AIPAC, Jerusalem U, Hillel International and Birthright Israel.
